Out of all the things I have learned this year in Social Studies, I have to say I liked learning about Ancient Greece the best. I liked learning about Ancient Greece because I think Greek Mythology is very interesting. Also I liked learning about Ancient Egypt and the Pharaohs. The project that we did with Ancient Egypt I like because I got to learn about Ancient Egyptian Animals. These are the chapters I liked the most.

I learned a lot of things in the chapter “Ancient Greece”. One of the things I learned was the differences of Athens and Sparta. In Athens, slaves, women, and people born outside Athens did not have the right to vote, own property, or testify in court. In Sparta, women had more personal rights than women in other Greek states. What I learned about Ancient Egypt was that Pharaohs are Egyptian leaders of rulers. Also I learned that Egyptians write in hieroglyphics.
One new skill I learned this year was map reading. We had to label and color the map as well as making a compass and a scale for it. Another skill we learned was note-taking. Instead of study guides, we had to take notes and study them. Also we had to study worksheets and review questions. Although it was hard making the change from study guides to notes, I learned a new skill that can be used in the future.

Here are some ways I can used what I learned in the future. One thing I could use is map skills. If I wanted to travel somewhere, I would have to know how to read a map. Plus, if my children ask me questions on THEIR homework, I don’t have to say, “Ummm, sorry honey I can’t help you.”
